Local Watershed Plans

In February 2005 and December 2006, the McLean County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the McLean County Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)  invited landowners, representatives of local governments, local experts, and concerned  citizens to meet to address the issue of elevated levels of phosphorus, nitrates and sediment in Evergreen Lake and Lake Bloomington. From those initial groups Planning Committees were formed which developed a list of action points for further investigation. The Planning Committees appointed a Technical Committee to address the individual problem statements, investigate existing data and Best Management Practices to address the problems, inventory resources in the watersheds and develop alternatives.

These efforts resulted in the development of the Evergreen Lake Watershed Plan and the Lake Bloomington Watershed Plan.  Ongoing efforts between multiple partner organizations now focus on implementation of the watershed plans.
